So your favorite uncle has told you he can take images of your wedding. Maybe you have looked on one of the web sites that list services and found the ad that says "I will shoot your wedding for $200.00", it does come down to, you get what you pay for. I can not begin to tell you how many women I have talked with who say they did not get any images of their wedding. They regret it, and many times I have been contacted to at least create some great bridal images. A true professional has the equipment to create stunning images and knows how to use this equipment.
From your first initial consultation you should be comfortable with the photographer and the price structure. Don't shop on price alone, long after the wedding, the one thing that will be around for many years is your photographs.
